SAN FRANCISCO PRIDE IS ONE OF THE LARGEST EVENTS OF ITS KIND IN THE COUNTRY.
Date: May 23, 2016
San Francisco Pride
June 25 through June 26, 2016
It’s the largest such event in the country. Some call it a rite of passage. San Francisco Pride is a 2-day Event in San Francisco that draws more than 100,000 people who come for the parade and the many other Activities associated with San Francisco Pride.
It’s not just locals who hit the streets to watch the parade, attend the concerts, and browse the vendor booths that line the streets. People come from all over the country to attend this annual Event. While Pride Events are held throughout the country and the world, many consider the one held in San Francisco to be the most impactful.
It was at San Francisco Pride that Harvey Milk addressed the crowds almost 40 years ago. The iconic rainbow flag, which has come to represent gay pride throughout the world, was created for San Francisco Pride in 1978. While the New York City Pride Event started on year earlier, the Event in San Francisco is arguably the most well-known and, as mentioned above, is considered by many to be a rite of passage.
The theme for this year’s Event is For Racial and Economic Justice. This will be the 46th annual San Francisco Pride. The kickoff party on June 25th will get things started, and is one of the many parties that will take place throughout the Event in San Francisco. Big celebrities will be on hand to take part, and attendees will see performances by Lady Gaga, Solange Knowles, Margaret Cho, The Backstreet Boys, and many others. Twenty stages will host performances throughout the Event.
The Pride Parade is really the culmination of the Event. Tens of thousands of people will line the streets to watch as the parade passes by. Some of the contingents that will take part in the parade are Dykes on Bikes, PFLAG (Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays,) and many others.
More than 300 vendors will be on hand. Some will be selling their wares. Others will be talking about their missions and teaching attendees how they may be able to help. Grab some Pride Swag or learn about the many groups that do important work within the gay and lesbian communities.
