GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE

Address: San Francisco

THE GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE IS AN ICONIC SAN FRANCISCO ATTRACTION. ENJOY THE VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE DURING YOUR STAY AT OUR SAN FRANCISCO HOTEL.

The Golden Gate Bridge is a popular San Francisco Attraction that is visited by millions of people each year.

About the Golden Gate Bridge:

San Francisco is full of famous and recognizable landmarks and the Golden Gate Bridge is recognized the world over. Every year 10 million visitors/pedestrians cross the bridge, take in the panorama of the San Francisco Bay and skyline, pick up some of the history, or just enjoy the weather 220 feet above the surface of the bay.

Designed by Joseph Strauss, Irving Morrow, and Charles Ellis, construction of the expanse began on January 5, 1933, and it was completed on April 19, 1937. This San Francisco Attraction has been recognized by the American Society of Civil Engineers as a Wonder of the Modern World not only for its beauty, but its function.

Some locals, like many who live near world famous wonders, may take it for granted as nothing more than a way to get across the Bay to the northern counties, since prior to the bridge’s construction, the only transport was by ferry. This San Francisco Attraction spans 8,980 feet end to end and stands 746 feet at the highest point of the towers.

Driving across the Bridge is one way to see it, but using the pedestrian walkways or biking across offers a more close up look at both the Bridge and the Bay. Bicycles can be rented at the Sports Basement, located a short distance from the San Francisco Attraction.

To enjoy the best views, stop at one of the scenic overlooks. Bring along your camera as the Golden Gate Bridge is one of the most photographed Attractions near our San Francisco Hotel.

If you’re planning to walk across, then you should know that it is a walk of 1.7 miles. It takes an average of an hour to complete the journey. Those interested in the history of the Golden Gate Bridge should stop by the Visitors Center where photos and exhibits tell the story from concept to completion.
