SAN FRANCISCO CABLE CARS ARE AN ICONIC FEATURE OF THE CITY. ENJOY A POPULAR ACTIVITY IN SAN FRANCISCO WITH A RIDE ON THIS HISTORIC MODE OF TRANSPORTATION.
Riding the Cable Cars is a fun Activity in San Francisco that gives visitors a chance to enjoy a historic feature of the City.
For nearly 150 years the San Francisco Cable Cars have offered a convenient method of traveling about the City. Riding on these now-iconic cars is a fun Activity in San Francisco.
In 1912, there were 2 dozen cable car lines in the City. Today, only 3 remain: Powell-Hyde, Powell-Mason, and California Street. A ride on these lines can take you to some of the City’s most popular Restaurants, Attractions, and Activities.
Some guests at our Hotel in San Francisco purchase a pass that allows them to ride the cars throughout the duration of their visit. If, however, you just want to experience this historic mode of transportation, you can purchase a single ticket for $5. You can pay in cash, but note that conductors are only able to make change up to $20.
While the San Francisco Cable Cars are a good way to get around, there are some things to keep in mind:
The Cars do not run 24 hours a day. Operating hours are 6 a.m. to 12:30 a.m.
You might not be able to hop on every car. Sometimes the San Francisco Cable Cars are full. This typically happens mid-route, so if you plan to pick up a car mid-route, you may have a bit of a wait.
The Cable Cars run about every 10 minutes.
Many guests at our Hotel in San Francisco love the chance to snap a picture while riding on these iconic features of life in the City. View our San Francisco Attractions Guide to learn about some of the Attractions you can reach by Cable Car.
