The Castro Street Fair, a popular Event in San Francisco, is one of the largest LGBT gatherings in the country.
If you didn’t get enough LGBT action at the Folsom Street Fair then stick around for the famous Castro Street Fair. Staged in the center of San Francisco’s gay universe, the Castro district has been home to this Event in San Francisco since it was established in 1974 by Harvey Milk and the Castro Valley Association.
That year the festival drew some 5,000 revelers. Since then the popularity of this Event in San Francisco has grown and now attracts over 300,000 enthusiasts every year. As you would expect from a center of creativity like San Francisco, the fair features the work of neighborhood and regional artists. Merchants and other craftsmen also have their goods on display. Also in the spotlight are local musicians, bands, and dance troupes showcasing their talent.
This non-profit affair donates all revenue to philanthropic organizations that are meaningful to residents of the Castro neighborhood. The festival’s emcee is internationally known drag sensation Honey Mahogany.
Mainstage entertainment includes The Ethel Merman Experience and The San Francisco Lesbian Gay Freedom Band. The Dance Alley stage will feature Lady Kraft, Ambrosia Salad and Nark. The recently added Kink Karnival Alley, geared toward the adult element in attendance, you will find adult, midway type games, competitions and dealers of some most indecent merchandise you may ever see.
